The project, formed in March 2023 as the songwriting vehicle of Miles Goodall, blends classic soft rock sensibility with modern indie intimacy. Drawing on influences such as Andy Shauf, Matt Maltese and Steely Dan, Soft Top have earnt early support from BBC Radio 6 and BBC Introducing Sussex quickly establishing themselves as a compelling new voice.
Beyond the studio, Soft Top have built a strong live reputation, sharing stages with the likes of George Bloomfield, World News, Jaakko Eino Kalevi and Honeyglaze. Soft Top features a host of prolific Brighton musicians:
“We actually recorded this with a bunch of other tracks at Brighton Electric in a mad 3 day session of tracking. We spent a lot of time building on that bare bones frame of the track, in Bob’s bedroom studio mostly, adding the orchestral parts and vocal harmonies. We did have some occasional overdub days at Electric for guitar, but a lot of it was done either at Bob’s flat, or at a small studio space he was renting out in Portslade. Luckily the band are all accomplished musicians, Owen and Charlie play together in other projects (Hutch, Sad Dads), as do Austin (Tinman) and I. Bobby produces a lot of the Brighton music scene and with the addition of Oakley’s cello we were blessed with a great team around the songs.” (Miles Goodall)
