Recorded in a single 10 hour session at RAK Studios with Shuta Shinoda (Jenny Beth, Hot Chip, Spiritualized), Ellis is a continuous touring presence too: by the end of 2025 - - including his worldwide performances as the drummer for Fat Dog - he and his band will have played 145 shows, including a slew of festival slots at Haldern Pop, Best Kept Secret, The Great Escape, Leffingeleuren, Les Nuits Botanique and Liverpool Sound City

I Want To be also marks his first new material since spring EP Spill - which ushered in Radio airplay from BBC Radio 6Music (Steve Lamacq, Emily Pilbeam, New Music Fix), Radio X (John Kennedy) and Apple Music (Matt Wilkinson), in addition to press backing from the likes of Bandcamp, NME, So Young, Far Out, Clunk, and Hard of Hearing.

First conceived in April during a tour supporting (and drumming for) Far Dog, ‘I want To Be ‘ encapsulates Ellis’ uneasy yet liberated livewire on-stage persona, as he explains: “I wrote a bunch of ideas for the lyrics on a drive between shows on a tour in April with Fat Dog, where we were supporting as well. I was on a high from performing twice a night and loving every second of each show, and the lyrics are a reflection of that feeling, where I can step into a character and portray a version of myself that I struggle to replicate in day-to-day life.”
